How Do You Gauge How Happy You Are?

From Denny: Apologies to everyone who was looking for their quote today. We had serious thunderstorms move through yesterday and we lost power. It was like the heavens opened up and decided it was time for a deluge!

Anyway, today's quote was from a U.S. President. We hear a lot of quotes and sometimes don't realize they were said originally by American Presidents. Even a culture often grows up over time around the thought in that quote, so it is with this one.

Generations later we are now addressing how to work our attitudes to improve our lives. Well, Abraham Lincoln, who knew an awful lot of terrible adversity, certainly understood what it took to build and maintain a positive attitude.

He lost 69 elections and he lost all his children over a span of time. He was also President during the trying times of America's only Civil War and was ill with a slow disease. His wife went into a terrible depression upon the loss of their youngest son from illness.

Lincoln was a strong-willed kind-hearted man who even brought his political enemies into his administration in the effort to govern the country in a bi-partisan manner. Lincoln is most famous for several of his inspiring speeches and deciding to dare to go against the tide of convention and free America's slaves. He was all about doing the best job possible for the sake of ALL the American people.

"People are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - President Abraham Lincoln

Video: Obama Revamps Food Safety System

From Denny: Apparently, I missed this video during pollen season here in Louisiana. Usually, pollen season doesn't affect me but I guess this year no such luck, maybe global warming is to blame, and was in a regular mind fog, missing lots of news.

Here President Obama talks about how is going about revamping the American food safety system. Really no President really has bothered to tackle most of our infrastructure systems once they are in place. Everyone knows a house doesn't take care of itself. A house requires constant maintenance. For too long, important but not sexy or interesting, parts of our infrastructure have required revamping. Let's hope he can work wonders within his first term. It's a huge system to overhaul when you are talking about 300 million people.

Obama is now the 44th President!

Just finished watching Obama's speech and other news coverage - what an historic time, what emotion for millions around the world. There must be millions of people crowded together on the Washington Mall. It reminds me of when the Pope in Rome, Italy celebrates Mass in St. Peter's Square and a million strong gather.

Interesting is that the ceremony ran a little long and by so doing Obama became the 44th President exactly at noon BEFORE he took the oath of office four minutes later. How many of you knew that bit of trivia?

Congrats Mr. President! May you be successful in all endeavors.
